Active Parenting
The philosophy of “Active Parenting” is that “it is the job of the parent rather than the child to play the leadership role in the family.” The active parenting skills taught in this 6-week program will help parents build four important qualities of character in their children as well as themselves: Responsibility, Respect, Cooperation, and Self-Esteem.

Weekly topics are:

  • Parenting Styles Past/Present

  • Active Communication

  • Effective Discipline

  • Sidestepping Power Struggles

  • Building Character and Self-Esteem

Open to parents who are interested in receiving a required parenting class completion certificate and/or parents who want to improve their parenting skills for lifelong learning. For more information or to register contact Alyson at (608) 784-8125.

Happiest Baby On the Block
Wouldn’t you like to have the happiest baby on the block? “The Happiest Baby on the Block” is a program for new parents and parents-to-be, created by Dr. Harvey Karp, a respected pediatrician and child development expert. His vision of creating stronger, happier families is realized by teaching parents four revolutionary concepts that will help them soothe their crying and colicky babies, including “the 5 S’s”: five easy ways to turn on your baby’s amazing calming  reflex. Copies of Dr. Karp’s DVD will be available for checkout (a $20.00 deposit is required and will be refunded when video is returned).  For more information, contact Jackie at (608) 784-8125.

Sharing Parenting Responsibility
This is an eight-week course to help parents work together as partners to raise their children after a separation, divorce, break-up, or for parents who have never been married to each other. For both parents this means understanding new roles, responsibilities, and rights. Cooperative co-parenting can help reduce stress and conflict for both parents and especially for children.

This educational class will help both parents develop the vital skills needed to create a “parenting plan” with their children’s best interest in mind. This plan is written during the course of the eight weeks. Space is limited so registration is required. For more information or to register contact Alyson at (608) 784-8125.

Mondays | 6:00-8:00PM
April 7th, 14th, 21st, and 28th & May 5th, 12th, 19th, and 26th

PROGRAMS

Car Seat Safety Checks
Parents can have their child's car seat checked free of charge by a certified Child Passenger Safety Technician here at Family Resources. A car seat check covers many areas including making sure the car seat is appropriate for your child, that it is installed correctly, and that the child is harnessed safely. Please allow 20-30 minutes per seat and have the child who uses the seat present. Appointments are preferred but drop-ins are also welcome as long as a technician is available. For more information or to schedule an appointment, contact Audra at (608) 784-8125.

Family Exchange Program
Holding your child's heart together, separately...
The Family Exchange Program offers a safe and nurturing place where parents can exchange their children for time with mom and/or dad. Family Exchange is available to any family with at least one parent living in
La Crosse County. Program hours are 3:30 - 6:30 pm. Before participating in the program each parent will complete an orientation and a 1½ hour workshop entitled, "Transferring: A business relationship for our child's heart!" Both parents will set up an appointment to participate in the Family Exchange Program. For more information call Alyson (608) 784-8125.

Parent Coaching
Children don’t come with instructions. Every stage brings new behavior. If you have questions, give Fran a call about Parent Coaching at (608) 784-8125.

Parent Friend
All parents need friends to chat about the parenting challenges they face, and realize they aren't the only one going through them. Family Resources can be that friend for you through the Parent Friend program. We'll come to your house and talk with you about those parenting issues that are bothering you. For issues from bedtime routines and power struggles to finding time for yourself, we'll provide encouragement, support, and new ideas. For more information or to schedule a visit, call Lisa at (608) 784-8125.

Partners In Parenting
Are you a first time parent? Do you have questions about babies? If you answered "yes" to either of these questions, the Partners In Parenting program is for you! We will give you our wonderful parenting book and share information about babies, families, and resources in our area. For more information call Jackie at (608) 784-8125.
