CLASSES

Active Parenting
Wednesdays | February 23rd - March 30th | 6-8PM     OR    Thursdays | June 2nd - 23rd | 6-8PM
The skills taught in this 6-week video-based program help parents model and instill important qualities of character for their children to succeed. Topics include Parenting Styles Past/Present, Building Character and Self-Esteem, Active Communication, Discipline and Choice, Redirecting Misbehavior, and Sidestepping Power Struggles. Great for parents who continuously learn and improve their parenting skills, and/or for parents who are interested in receiving a required parenting class completion certificate. For more information or to register, contact Fran at (608) 784-8125.

Happiest Baby On the Block
Tuesday, May 10th | 6-7:30PM
Wouldn’t you like to have the happiest baby on the block? You can! Find out how to soothe crying and colicky babies with the 5 S’s: five easy techniques that will calm you baby and turn on his (or her!) amazing “calming reflex!” Child care is available for the second session being held at Family Resources. For more information or to register, contact Lois at (608) 784-8125.

Sharing Parenting Responsibility
Mondays | February 21st - March 28th | 6-8PM   OR   Mondays | April 11th - May 16th | 6-8PM
This is a six-week course to help parents work together as partners to raise their children after a separation, divorce, break-up, or for parents who have never been married to each other. For both parents this means understanding new roles, responsibilities, and rights. Cooperative co-parenting can help reduce stress and conflict for both parents and especially for children. This educational class will help both parents develop the vital skills needed to create a “parenting plan” with their children’s best interest in mind. This plan is written during the course of the six weeks. Space is limited so registration is required. For more information or to register contact Patti at (608) 784-8125.

Stewards of Children: Training for Prevention of Child Sexual Abuse
Tuesday, April 12th | 12-3PM
This nationally acclaimed training opportunity is designed to educate adults to prevent, recognize and react responsibly to child sexual abuse. This workshop is highly recommended for all adults who work with children and youth—including teachers, parents, volunteers and other interested adults. Advance registration is required. Enrollment is limited, contact Lisa at (608) 784-8125. Private Trainings for your small group or organization may also be arranged.

Facilitators of  Stewards of Children are trained and authorized by Darkness to Light, a national nonprofit organization.

PROGRAMS

Car Seat Safety Checks
Parents can have their child's car seat checked free of charge by a certified Child Passenger Safety Technician here at Family Resources. A car seat check covers many areas including making sure the car seat is appropriate for your child, that it is installed correctly, and that the child is harnessed safely. Car seat checks are not available during inclement weather. For more information or to schedule an appointment, contact Family Resources at (608) 784-8125.

Family Exchange & Visitation Program
The Family Exchange Program offers a safe and nurturing place where parents can exchange their children for time with mom and/or dad or have the support of supervised visitation. Family Exchange is available to any family with at least one parent living in La Crosse County. For more information or to participate, call Alyson at (608) 784-8125.

Parent Coaching
Children don’t come with instructions. Every stage brings new behavior. If you have questions, give Fran a call about Parent Coaching at (608) 784-8125.

Parent Friend
All parents need friends to chat about the parenting challenges they face, and realize they aren't the only one going through them. Family Resources can be that friend for you through the Parent Friend program. We'll come to your house and talk with you about those parenting issues that are bothering you. For issues from bedtime routines and power struggles to finding time for yourself, we'll provide encouragement, support, and new ideas. For more information or to schedule a visit, call Lisa at (608) 784-8125.

Partners In Parenting
Are you a first time parent? Do you have questions about babies? If you answered "yes" to either of these questions, the Partners In Parenting program is for you! We will give you our wonderful parenting book and share information about babies, families, and resources in our area. For more information call Shelley at (608) 784-8125.
