The Home Visit
Our intent is to build an adequate supply of quality
child care providers and ensure that all required
standards have
been met.
This means we will be
checking all of the rooms which are used for child care, including looking
in cabinets, closets, under the beds and any other areas the children will
have access to. If, during our visit we find that you have not achieved
the minimum requirements, we can provide you with technical assistance and
suggestions to help make your home a safe and healthy child care setting.
You need to supply
the following items at your home visit:

A copy of the rabies certificate for all cat/dogs.

If you do not use water form a public water supply,
you need to supply a copy of a test showing that the levels of bacteria
and nitrates are safe.

The completed Standards and Checklist (this
will be sent to you prior to your visit).

A signed copy of Family Resources’ Revocations Policy
(this is also sent).
The following is a list of some things we will be
checking for in your home:

There must be a working smoke detector on every level
of your home.
-
You must have a working telephone. Cell phones are
NOT acceptable.

All exits must be unblocked.
-
The home must be clean/sanitary and free of insects
and rodents.

The home must be uncluttered.
-
Toilets, sinks, potty chairs and diaper changing
areas must be sanitary and in good working condition.
-
There must be proper heat and ventilation.
-
Guns must be stored in a locked cabinet of have
trigger locks.
-
All electrical outlets
must be covered.
-
All electrical outlets must be covered.
-
The garbage containers (inside and outside) must be
covered or be inaccessible to the children.
-
Baby gates must be placed at the top/bottom of all
steps.
-
Emergency numbers
including Poison Control must be posted on or next to your telephone.
-
First aid supplies
including several sizes of band-aids and disposable rubber gloves are
needed.
-
Window blind cords need
to be safe.
-
There must be a variety
of toys and equipment for the children to choose from.
-
The outside area must
be free of all hazards.
-
Any hazardous items need to be stored in an area that
is inaccessible to the children. These include (but are not limited to )
the following:
Medications
Cleaning supplies
Knives/Scissors
Plastic Bags
Shampoos
Bathroom items
Cigarettes
Matches/Lighters
Flammables
Pesticides
If during the home visit there are concerns for the children’s safety, we
will
offer suggestions and allow time for you to correct the problem.
